Read the Word:
Acts 1:1-11
Meditate on the Word:
After Christ’s death on the cross, everything appeared to be over. Death seemed to have conquered the Lord. Then our Lord was resurrected from the dead. We observe this day every year on what is called Easter (though I prefer Resurrection Day). Death had no control over the Lord. He had defeated the grave and carried our sins to hell where they belong. Yet, when He returned, Christ only stayed with His disciples for forty days. He made sure that there were plenty of witnesses to see Him and to testify that He is alive. Yet, He could not remain on earth. He had to take His place at the right hand of God the Father.
Today is the day, forty days after the Resurrection, when we celebrate our Lord’s Ascension. In the forty days that He was with the disciples, He not only proved that He is alive, but He provided parting instructions for them. It was essential for Him to return to heaven to send the Holy Spirit to His followers. The spread of the church would not be possible without the Holy Spirit. He also provided a promise that He will return and gather His people to Himself. That is the true joy of the Ascension is in knowing that our Lord will return in glory.
Pray the Word:
Pray that those you know may be fully prepared for His return.
