Read the Word:
Psalm 139:1-6
Meditate on the Word:
As humans, we can often be contradictory, even within ourselves. For example, I am a person who very much enjoys quiet. Perhaps not absolute silence per se, but being outdoors with only the sights and sounds of nature is something I quite enjoy. Yet, often when I find myself alone in silence, I pull my phone out of my pocket and start scrolling through posts, articles, videos, songs, and whatever else will keep sounds coming my way. As much as I love and enjoy silence, there is also something a bit unsettling about it.
It is the same way with being known. As humans, we have an innate desire to be known and loved, but we also have insecurities about ourselves that we would prefer to not be known. Many of us like to curate an image of ourselves for public consumption that emphasizes our admirable qualities and hides our flaws. Don’t believe it? Look at what most people post on social media. These curated and filtered images often obscure chaos, disorder, pain, and a variety of other things we prefer not to emphasize. There is the desire to be known, but only to an extent, for fear that if we are completely known, we might not be loved.
So we can find it both disturbing and very comforting that our God knows us completely. There is nothing about us that He does not know. Even those things we wish He didn’t. However, knowing these things has not stopped Him from loving us intensely. His love is both perfect and complete. Let us take comfort in being completely known and loved today.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord for His deep concern for you today.
