Read the Word:
Revelation 3:14-22
Meditate on the Word:
I love to have a hot cup of fresh coffee in the morning while reading scripture. In the summer, when it’s hot outside, I also love a refreshing iced coffee. One thing that I do not like is a cup of lukewarm coffee. The one that sits in the cup too long because I got busy. This happens to me a lot. The coffee is not good, and while microwaving it will heat it, the flavor is still off.
How does a church, such at the one at Laodicea, become lukewarm? By simply sitting and not doing anything. They become comfortable. Their needs are provided and everything is going well. They are only lukewarm in their faith because while they know Christ, they do not rely on Him. This is not to be the attitude of Christ’s people. We are to be on fire for Him.
By the way, the best way to warm up a cup of coffee is to pour more coffee into the cup. In the same way, a fresh infusion of the Holy Spirit in churches will warm them up as well. Let us check our own spiritual temperature today.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal whether you are hot or cold. Confess your reliance on Him today.
