Read the Word:
Numbers 21:4-9
Meditate on the Word:
We must make no mistake-the sin behind the Israelites’ grumbling against God and Moses in this case was ingratitude. They were not thankful that God, using Moses, had led them out of slavery in Egypt. They were not thankful for the crossing of the Red Sea. They were not thankful for a route that bypassed potential enemies. They were not thankful for the manna which fell from heaven six nights per week. They complained about God and His chosen leader. In their complaining, they did not trust that God would carry through on taking them to the promised land.
Like with the ingratitude of the Israelites, our ingratitude is often rooted in impatience. We want for God to give us what we want when we want it. As the old Burger King commercial used to advertise, “your way right away.” As a society, we are becoming more impatient as things have gotten faster and easier. In a microwave society, waiting for anything seems impossible. And when we are forced to wait, tempers flare. We must recognize that God’s timeline is not ours. He knows when the right time is for everything. We must recognize and be thankful for that.
Pray the Word:
If you are guilty of ingratitude or impatience, confess that to the Lord today. Repent.
