Read the Word:
Psalm 63:1-8
Meditate on the Word:
My body has signals to let me know if I have waited too long to eat or drink. I start to get tired, and sometimes a little shaky if I’ve skipped breakfast or lunch. If I have not drank enough water, my mouth feels dry and I start to get a bit of a brain fog. I have learned to recognize the signals, grab something to eat or drink, be satisfied, and go about my day.
Do we experience similar signs when we have not spent time with our Lord? When it’s been too long since our last spiritual “meal”? Would we even recognize the signs of spiritual hunger and thirst? Often, like with physical hunger and thirst, the signs can be mistaken for something else. We can see things like anxiety, depression, and hopelessness as mental or medical conditions. And often they legitimately are. However, if we have not spent time with our Lord in prayer and in His word, these symptoms can be present or made worse. Just as we must eat and drink every day, we must also be nourished spiritually.
Pray the Word:
Join with the psalmist in praying, “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
