Read the Word:
Psalm 24:1-2
Meditate on the Word:
If you have ever been around a small child, you may know that they go through a phase when everything that they see and want is “mine!” Even if it was not given to them. Even if it is placed out of their reach. Even if belongs to someone eles. We seem to be born wanting to take possession of things that do not belong to us. Many do not outgrow this behavior. But we must learn to recognize that some things do not belong to us.
Creating something comes with the authority of ownership. For instance, a sculptor can turn out a magnificent statue. As the creator of that statue, he is free to shape it in any way that he likes. Then, that statue belongs to him until he transfers ownership to another. We can think of God’s creative authority in this way. Our God created the earth and everything in it, so therefore He has authority over it (and us!) We are stewards of His creation. We are not the Creators. We are the caretakers of what He owns, not the owners. Even our lives are not ours, but a gift that He has given to us for His purposes. Let’s be mindful of that today.
Pray the Word:
Thank our God today for allowing us to share in the beauty of His creation.
