Read the Word:
Psalm 19:7-11
Meditate on the Word:
Do we treat the instruction of the Lord as perfect? Do we treat His precepts as right? His command as radiant? His ordinances as reliable? I would say that we probably like to think that we do. But does our attitude toward our Lord reflect an understanding that He is always right and we are not always right? Probably the most sure test of our view of God’s instruction is what our mind does when we read or hear it.
There are basically two attitudes which can be had toward scripture. The first is that of obedience, “God said it, so I’ll do it.” Of course, this obedience may not be perfect, but this person tries their level best to do what their Lord commands, regardless of their personal preference. The person with this attitude realizes that God’s commands are good and does not doubt them.
The second attitude is that of the “loophole looker.” This basic attitude is that upon reading or hearing a command, “I don’t want to do that. Let me find a way out of it.” These people choose to believe that a particular command does not apply to them because:
- They don’t want it to.
- It doesn’t fit with their desired lifestyle.
- God didn’t really mean it.
- Things are so different now than then.
When we try to eliminate any part of God’s instruction, we do violence to the whold of Scripture. Let us examine our attitude today.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal the attitude of your heart toward His instruction today.
