Read the Word:
2 Corinthians 2:14-17
Meditate on the Word:
Once, in a nursing home, I had a co-worker who routinely wore entirely too much perfume. Our job was often one filled with unpleasant smells, and she thought that by covering herself in a pleasant fragrance, she would make the shift more pleasant for her and those around her. It actually had the opposite effect. Instead of counteracting the smell of our environment, her perfume added to it to eye-watering effect. Her perfume, which was probably quite lovely in the proper dose and environment became a real stench to those around her.
Paul describes us in similar terms in our environment. Since Christ fills us, our words and actions reflect Him. This is pleasant to those who are saved. However, to those who are unsaved, our “fragrance” stands in stark contrast to the putridness of their lives. It is a reminder of their lostness, and they would prefer not to remember that. That sweet, pleasant aroma of Christ is often offensive to those around us.
Pray the Word:
Pray to the Lord for boldness to speak His word.
