Read the Word:
Luke 22:47-53
Meditate on the Word:
This week we have looked at the different gospels’ accounts of the arrest of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. We have been observing details that each that supplement our understanding of the others. As with any event that has multiple witnesses, the accounts do not match precisely. This does not make any of them untrue…it means that the observers were human and saw different things at the same event. For instance, Luke is the only one who records that Jesus healed the ear of the high priest’s servant.
This was Jesus’ last act of physical healing before His death. After having demonstrated His power and authority to the soldiers, He demonstrated His power to one who would have certainly gone to his boss, the high priest, and reported it. Of course, this didn’t change the outcome. Jesus still went to the cross as He was supposed to. But on His way, He healed an enemy. Which is really what He did on the cross as well. He went to pay the price for His enemies, which we all were. Let us not forget that today.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord for being healed from your iniquity today.
