Read the Word:
Jeremiah 31:31-34
Meditate on the Word:
How comforting are the words of verse 34, “I will forgive their iniquity and never more remember their sin.” Wouldn’t it be great if we possessed that ability? Of course we can forgive, but how often can we truly “never more remember” the sin that someone committed against us? I have very specific memories of many things that were done to me, that I can say I have forgiven, but the memory is still there. There are people who will never again have my trust because of what they have done. This does not negate my forgiveness, it simply makes me human.
Even worse, however, is our inability to forget our own sins. I also have very vivid memories of wrong I have done to others. Things I’ve said or done that have caused harm. Regrets of past actions and inactions. Isn’t it good to know that even though we, right now, do not have the ability to forget our own sins, that God is capable and willing to forget them. He is willing and able to remove our sins from us “as far as the east is from the west.” Let us rejoice in that fact today.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord for help with any unforgiveness that you are experiencing.
