Read the Word:
Romans 15:1-6
Meditate on the Word:
I was recently sitting in a busy waiting room waiting to be seen. We were about half an hour past my appointment time, but we had all been told that there was only one provider because someone had called in sick. During that time, I was engaged in conversation with a nice lady who had brought her father in for his appointment, and another lady who was much less pleasant. I got the impression that she would have complained if she were hung with a new rope. One thing I noticed was that when she went back to the provider, the mood of the entire waiting room lightened.
Complaining lady is the type of person that I have heard pastors refer to as EGR (Extra Grace Required). I found myself having a bad attitude toward her at the end of our hour of waiting together. It can be hard to have the mind of Christ toward someone like that. Of course, it can also be hard to have the mind of Christ toward me sometimes, I’m sure. But we will encounter those people we simply do not immediately like. At school, work, even at church sometimes. Yet Christ is glorified when we are united as believers. This is not something that we apparently come by naturally. This is why Paul asks that God may give us the attitude of Christ.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to give you endurance, encouragement, and the attitude toward others that Christ has.
