Read the Word:
Isaiah 43:1-2
Meditate on the Word:
When the Interstate Highway System was built, many difficult roads were bypassed, along with towns, scenery, and a slower speed that let one take it all in. Now, it is possible to get to places at breakneck speed while seeing almost nothing as you whiz by on a road that is largely free from difficulty. The life of a beliver is not a freeway, but more like a backroad.
We are never told in scripture that we will have an easy life belonging to the Lord. In fact, many places specifically teach exactly the opposite. Take these couple of verses in Isaiah, for instance. The command to “Fear not” has nothing to do with the removing of flood or fire; it is only because of being redeemed. In being redeemed, we receive the promise of His presence through the water and the fire. Because of His presence, we will not be overwhelmed; instead we will be protected.
If we did not have to go through the difficult things in life, we would miss the opportunity to see God working through those things. We would not know the difficulty He had spared us from. We would also miss the beauty of seeing Him there with us helping us through the situations of life.
Pray the Word:
Thank our Lord for being there during the difficult times.
