Read the Word:
1 John 2:28-29
Meditate on the Word:
In previous careers, the places where I worked were subject to various kinds of inspections, both scheduled and unannounced. Particularly in health care, we were subject to state inspections that were somewhat routine, but unannounced. The idea was to see if we were meeting the various requirements of the law regarding patient care. It was always humerous to me to see people panicking whenever inspectors would walk in. Workers would scramble to clean things up and hide things that were out of regulation. One thing I learned over the course of working in various places was that if you are always doing things according to the standard, you didn’t have to worry and fix a bunch of things when inspectors showed up. You could be confident in what they would find.
You can tell whether or not someone really expects Christ to return by how they live their daily lives. John reminds us that if we abide or remain in Christ, we can be confident when He returns. If we are living distant from Him and doing things we should not, His return will be a dreadful event. Are you abiding in Him today?
Pray the Word:
Pray to be drawn closer to our Lord today so that you will not be ashamed at His appearing.
