Read the Word:
John 13:1-17
Meditate on the Word:
Many of our high church brethren know today as “Maundy Thursday.” The word “maundy” comes from the Latin word mandatum, which means commandment. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples in a grand act of service to them, then commanded that they do the same to each other. This event, of course, took place at the Last Supper. That night, Jesus would be betrayed by one whose feet He had washed. It is significant that Jesus chose to command the disciples (and by extension, us) to serve each other at His last meeting with them before His crucifixion.
Washing the feet of another was the humblest act one could perform, usually reserved for the lowest slave. Jesus demonstrated that service as King of kings and Lord of lords. We must remember that we are not above our Master. He commanded us to serve each other, and gave us that example. Let us look for ways to serve another today.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal someone that you can serve today in order to keep His command.
