Read the Word:
1 John 2:18-25
Meditate on the Word:
Scholars date this letter from Apostle John about the year 90 A. D. Yet, reading it, one could picture it being written today. Heresy and false teachers had already creeped into the church. Some of these false teachers or “antichrists” were going around teaching “special knowlege” that was in contrast to the scriptures. They planted doubt and deceived people, leading them away from the truth of Christ. This happens today as well. But John reminds the first-century believers and us that we have an anointing from the Holy One and that we know the truth.
Many people read this passage and drill down on the word “antichrist” and picture a shadowy figure who takes over the world deceiving people and ushering in Armageddon. We are told plainly in this passage that antichrist is anyone who denies that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. As John reminds us, many antichrists have already come. It is our job to know the truth and to recognize lies as such when they are told to us.
Pray the Word:
Pray for those who are following false teachers, that they would recognize the truth and repent.
