Read the Word: Hebrews 11:23-29
Meditate on the Word:
Chapter 11 of the book of Hebrews tells about many Old Testament heroes. The words “by faith” emphasize how each of these people, such as Abel, Enoch, and Abraham were able to accomplish what they did. This is important to the audience of this book because the same faith that was required of their ancestors is needed by them as well to live as Hebrew Christians in the Roman Empire. Today’s section points to a time when a hero of the faith, Moses, lived and did what his Lord required.
Moses was fortunate to live. Pharaoh had ordered all Hebrew baby boys to be killed, but his parents hid him. When he got too big to hide, then they left him in a basket. Pharaoh’s daughter found him and took pity on him. He got to be raised in Pharaoh’s household. He was a person of importance. He could have lived a quite comfortable life. However, Moses chose to follow God’s calling on his life instead. This would lead to forty years of exile and then leading an obstinate group of people out of Egypt when he was 80!
The knowledge Moses gained growing up in Pharaoh’s home helped him to communicate with Pharaoh. The time in the wilderness herding sheep taught him skills. The time in the wilderness provided a time for closeness with God before he did that thing that he was created to do. I like to say that no experience is wasted. Every life experience that I have ever had has given me a tool that I can continue to use. What experiences has God given to you, and what tools have you gained from that experience. How will you use that tool to serve Him today?
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal to you any special knowledge or experience gained in your life that can be used for His glory. Commit to using the gift of your experience for Him.
