Read the Word:
Philippians 1:3-11
Meditate on the Word:
Paul wrote this letter to the church at Philippi while being held as a Roman prisoner. Even while imprisoned for his faith, Paul managed to write letters of encouragement to believers in the churches he had planted. This attitude of encouragement can only come from someone who has a true hope in Christ. A weak or false belief would have led him to a mental and emotional defeat during such a trial. Instead, he goes on to mention that because of his imprisonment, the whole guard force had heard the gospel.
Paul’s faith did not need to be demonstrated to the Lord, or even to himself. The things that he suffered because of Christ were meant to be a lesson to those he encountered. They were also meant to be a lesson to us. It is easy to get caught up in our own struggles and ignore the needs of those around us. I’m certain though, that while Paul was praying for this church and encouraging him with this letter, they also prayed for him. They continued to support him through an unfair and uncertain time.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord who you can encourage today. Then, contact that person and encourage them.
