Read the Word:
Hebrews 10:26-31
Meditate on the Word:
In the Old Testament, breaking the law had serious consequences. In many cases, that penalty was death. Why? These penalties were to show God’s people the seriousness of their sin. All sin leads to death. It seems that we have gotten away from recognizing the seriousness of sin today. We can think of some sins as “harmless,” but in truth, no sin is harmless. No sin is without a victim. No sin can go unpunished. This is why Christ’s sacrifice is essential to us.
When we minimize sin or its consequence, we trivialize Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf. If any sin is not serious, why did Jesus have to die to atone for it? If we make sin into no big deal, we make our Lord’s pain and suffering on the cross no big deal. This is what the author of Hebrews means when he writes about regarding as profane the blood of the covenant. Let us recognize the seriousness of sin, particularly our own.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal any area of your life where you may have “trampled on the Son of God.” Confess and repent.
