Read the Word:
Psalm 78:9-16
Meditate on the Word:
For Sunday’s sermon, we discussed the first stanza of this psalm (Psalm 78:1-8). The psalm continues recounting the history of the nation of Israel. It discusses how God provided for them and how the people rebelled against Him. Joshua 16:10 records that Ephraim refused to drive the Canaanites out of their land. By not displacing these idolaters from the land, they set up the situation where future generations would engage in their idolatry.
This was just one instance of many where the people did not trust God to provide for them as He had promised. There were indeed many more. Sometimes, it’s the same with us. We can think that God will not do for us what we need. Yet, His promises have never failed. It’s just our failure to trust and obey that limits the ways in which God takes care of us.
Pray the Word:
Confess to our Lord any areas where you are failing to trust Him. Ask Him for help to strengthen your faith.
