Read the Word:
1 Corinthians 12:4-11
Meditate on the Word:
Have you ever stopped to consider what gifts God has given to you for the benefit of the church? Paul mentions a few gifts in this passage, but it does not seem that this is to be a complete list. Instead, what we notice is that these are given by the same God and that they are for the common good. Paul goes on in the next paragraph to compare the members of the church with a body, with different parts working together. Each part is necessary. In the same way, each gift that God gives to His people is important in the life of the church.
Many people seem to see their function in the body as simply to show up. Often people are of the opinion that by sitting in church for an hour on Sunday morning, that they have done their due service to the Lord. Many others are of the impression that they do not need to participate with the body at all. What would happen if a hand decided to no longer participate in the work of the body? Or only worked when it felt like it? Imagine how much more difficult it would be to get things done!
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal your gift to you. Commit to using that gift for the benefit of the church.
