Read the Word:
1 John 2:1-6
Meditate on the Word:
Once, on my way home from work when I was 17, I hit an icy spot in the road and slid off into the ditch. Fortunately for me, my boss came along right behind me and helped me get the car out of the ditch. The rest of the time that I worked in that building, I always remembered to exercise caution in that one curve. Sin can be much like that small spot of ice. It can slide us off the path and get us stuck. Even if we have been very cautious, we can still sometimes slip. Think of this ice as our unintentional sin. We need help to get out of that ditch, and that help comes in the form of Christ our Lord.
While we may not always avoid the occasional slip, we should avoid deliberately going off the road. Carelessly and recklessly going where we are not supposed to go, doing the things that we are not supposed to do, living outside the will of God, these are not slips. These are deliberate, intentional sins. These have no place in the life of the believer. If someone says, “I love Jesus,” and their entire lifestyle and pattern of speech are opposed to Him, believe their lifestyle. John reminds us that,”The one who says he remains in Him should walk just as He walked.” It is truly that simple.
Pray the Word:
Ask the Lord to point out any area of your life that does not conform to Him. Repent.
