Read the Word:
Genesis 11:1-9
Meditate on the Word:
I recently read an article about the planned community of California City, California. Most of the land area of the city, which is California’s third-largest, is unpaved roads, complete with names, where houses were intended to be built. Houses were never built there, but from the air, one can see the blueprint of what was supposed to be a grand community etched into the Mojave Desert. People often make grand plans. There are entire websites dedicated to major unfinished construction projects. The Tower of Babel is an example of this kind of grand planning without considering the question, “Should we do this?”
God had other plans for the people after the flood. He intended for them to spread out and populate the earth. Instead, after a couple of generations, they wanted to build a tower for themselves as a monument to their greatness. However, their plans were not God’s plans. So He thwarted their plans. How often does this happen to us? We know what we want to do, but haven’t considered what God would have us to do.
Pray the Word:
Seek out God’s plans for you and submit to them.
