Read the Word:
Acts 14:1-7
Meditate on the Word:
One thing that we discover from observing the apostle Paul throughout the book of Acts is that often, it is not the pagan world that causes the problems. Of course, Jesus also had problems in the synagogue at Nazareth, and problems with the priests, elders, and scribes. And at one time, Paul (known then as Saul) was the problem. But now, as he goes about to various cities to evangelize, he finds those in congregations who do not believe and cause trouble for him and his traveling companions.
Paul and Barnabas were not deterred by those who would mistreat them and try to kill them. Instead, they simply moved on to the next place and continued to spread the message. Often, we can think that it’s our job to convince people to believe in Christ. It’s not. The Holy Spirit convicts and convinces. Our job is simply to spread the gospel. Like Paul, we would do well to simply move on when someone rejects Christ. We must not, however, give up sharing what Christ has done for us.
Pray the Word:
Ask the Lord for strength to be faithful in the face of opposition.
