Read the Word:
Psalm 115:1
Meditate on the Word:
We live in a culture that encourages us to seek our own glory instead of the glory of God. Our society rewards a few glory-seekers with attention and prosperity. Some of these are because they are legitimately talented in some endeavor. Some are rewarded because of their beauty. Some are rewarded because of their ability to give a 60-second hot take on an issue. People want, even need, to be seen and heard.
When we encourage those who seek their own glory, we engage in a form of idolatry. We turn them into an object of worship, and our worship should be reserved exclusively for our God. When we seek our own glory, we invite others to engage in idolizing us. We ask them to give us the glory that is reserved for God alone.
The better thing to do is to use any platform we are given to point to God’s glory. Whether it is a pulpit, a table at the local diner, or a social media page, most of us have some sort of platform that will allow us to glorify our God. Let us always point to Him.
Pray the Word:
Confess to God any tendency in your life to seek your own glory. Repent.
