Scripture: Psalm 130
Out of the depths I call to you, Lord!
2 Lord, listen to my voice;
let your ears be attentive
to my cry for help.
3 Lord, if you kept an account of iniquities,
Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
so that you may be revered.
5 I wait for the Lord; I wait
and put my hope in his word.
6 I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning —
more than watchmen for the morning.
7 Israel, put your hope in the Lord.
For there is faithful love with the Lord,
and with him is redemption in abundance.
8 And he will redeem Israel
from all its iniquities. — Psalms 130:1-8 (CSB)
Thoughts:
There is great comfort to be found in being forgiven. It is an even more comforting idea that God can actually forget our sins. It would be wonderful for us to have that ability. There are many things in my past that I regret. Things I said or did that hurt people. Things that I said or did that grieved the Holy Spirit. These are things that I cannot take back and cannot forget. But God keeps no record of these things.
“With you there is forgiveness so that you may be revered.” Our reverence to Him is due to the fact that He has covered our sins. He does not hold them over our head. Unlike many people, ourselves included, He does not continue to hold us guilty for the things that we have confessed and turned away from. Rom. 8:1-2 reminds us that “There is therefore now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, because the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.” If the perfect One can forgive you, it is appropriate to forgive yourself as well.
Prayer Prompt:
As you pray to the Lord, remind Him (and yourself) that you will wait for Him and put your hope in His word.
