Read the Word:
Philippians 2:12-18
Meditate on the Word:
There were many times as a child that I did not want to do what was required of me. Whether it was coming in for dinner, sharing toys, or even doing my homework, often I did these things only because I would face consequences for not doing them. Of course, I know now that this is not the right attitude to carry through life. God does not want us to begrudgingly go through life obeying Him only out of a fear of punishment. He wants us to desire a closer relationship with Him.
We will not grow closer in our relationship to Him if we only think of Him as some kind of dictator or task-master. We should be willing to do what is required of us. Of course, He realizes that we need help with this. This is why we have the Holy Spirit to help us. He helps us to desire to do what is right. This is not something that we are capable of changing through our own efforts. But He can. We must allow Him.
Pray the Word:
Ask the Lord to reveal your attitude to you. Seek His help for improving it.
