Read the Word:
Psalm 34:1-8
Meditate on the Word:
“A complaing tongue reveals an ungrateful heart.”–William Arthur Ward.
If you have any experience at all with people, you have observed this to be true. You know that those who complain continuously are not only not much fun to be around, but they also are never thankful for anything. I remember once hearing another customer at a restaurant complain that his soup was too soupy. Often, complainers like to drag others into their complaining. After all, misery loves company.
We may not always consider that it can be the same for those who are grateful. Our psalmist today is busy praising God for how good He is. He does not have time to be ungrateful. But also, note this gem, “Proclaim the Lord’s greatness with me; let us exalt his name together.” If we are busy proclaiming the Lord’s greatness, we do not have time for ingratitude. We recognize all the good that God has given us. We recognize the situations where He has rescued us. As a result of this, we then become known as grateful people. Let us cultivate an attitude of gratitude today.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord today for something specific that He has done.
