Read the Word:
Romans 13:8-10
Meditate on the Word:
In Paul’s letter to Rome, he addresses the subject of loving our neighbor. Paul obviously had great love for the Lord. He loved God and His law very much. He was a well-educated Pharisee by background. But when Jesus changed his life, it was a change observable by everyone. He was willing to go to the ends of the earth, and even to his death for our Lord.
He rightly recognized that we cannot separate love of neighbor from love of God. The command to “love your neighbor as yourself,” he says, is the summary of the law. Of course he recognizes these words of the law from the Shema he would have recited daily as a boy. But these words would hold a special meaning in light of not only having been taught by Christ, but lived out by Him as well. Paul simply sought for himself and others to love others well. We should seek the same thing.
Pray the Word:
Ask the Lord to show you how you can demonstrate love to a neighbor today.
