Read the Word:
Ruth 4:11-17
Meditate on the Word:
Naomi had lost it all. Fleeing hunger, her husband had taken her and her two sons to a foreign land. Her sons had married, then also died. All she had left when she returned home was a daughter-in-law who would not abandon her. So she showed up, destitute and aged, in her hometown, with her foreign, widowed, daughter-in-law. The daughter-in-law does the only thing she knows to do to feed them, which is to glean in the fields. This is where she meets Boaz.
Boaz marries Ruth and they have a son. After such heartache and poverty, after losing her husband and two sons, after all the bitterness, Naomi gains a family. She becomes a grandmother to Obed. Obed, of course, is the grandfather of King David, from whose line Jesus came to us. Not only did God redeem Naomi and Ruth in this situation, but, as an extension, us as well.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord for insight into how He is working in whatever situation you’re facing.
