Read the Word:
Joshua 8:30-35
Meditate on the Word:
Joshua and the Israelites had just been handed two stunning victories, over Jericho and Ai. So they held a worship service. God was clearly with them and they made the time to gather to worship. The people were united together as one.
Interestingly, we are not told that Joshua (or some other religious leader) preached a great sermon. Instead, what we are told is that Joshua read every word of the Law to them. Even if it was only the book of Deuteronomy, that is 34 chapters that he read aloud to them. We are told that the entire assembly was there. Men. Women. Children. Resident aliens. All these people came to hear and re-commit themselves to God’s law. Do we have the dedication to stand for that long listening to God’s word?
As individual parts of the people of God, they all were responsible for knowing the Law and obeying it. Men. Women. Children. Resident aliens. There were blessings in obedience and curses in disobedience. As people who will all face the Lord one day, everyone should know His word.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to remove any obstacles to your attendance at worship this week. Commit to going and hearing the word.
