Read the Word:
Ezekiel 20:39-44
Meditate on the Word:
Often, when we want to serve something other than God, He lets us. Whether it is objects of wood or stone (Ezekiel 20:32), money (Matthew 6:24), or even ourselves, God often allows us to pursue these dead ends to their logical conclusion. We often can get very far out of the will of God before recognizing that the things we idolize in place of Him do not bring fulfillment. When we reach that natural and inescapable conclusion, God is there to remind us of who He is and His great mercy.
I like the way it is stated in v. 43, “There you will remember your ways and all your deeds that you have defiled yourselves with, and you will loathe yourselves for all the evil things you have done.” It is natural, when confronted with God’s holiness and mercy to realize our own sin. To be repulsed by it. This is a good thing. This gives us the desire to return to our Lord. Have you gone away from God? Call out to Him today.
Pray the Word:
Confess any idols that have remained in your life. Get rid of them today.
