Read the Word:
Philippians 2:12-18
Meditate on the Word:
Following the Lord is hard. Some days it is really hard. Certainly Apostle Paul was aware of this fact. Following the Lord let to him being beaten, tortured, run out of multiple cities, arrested multiple times, put on trial, and eventually executed. I’m sure that, at times, he just didn’t want to do those things that our Lord required of him. In the same way, we know that Jesus, in the flesh, did not want to go to the cross. And we grumble about a decision to go to church on Sunday?
Paul reminds us of an important principle in this passage, which is that it is God works in us to both will and do those things which please Him. He doesn’t just give us the ability, although He does that. He gives us the willingness to go into places that we, in the flesh, do not want to go. He gives us the willingness to serve Him and to serve neighbor. His Spirit will lead us into an area of service that He has called us to specifically. We must pay attention. And we must willingly go and do.
Pray the Word:
Confess those times when your obedience has been with the wrong attitude.
