Read the Word:
Colossians 3:12-17
Meditate on the Word:
In his letters to the churches, Apostle Paul frequently reminds Christians how loved we are and how we are to love others. Because of the love of Christ given to us, undeserving as we are, we are to share that love with others. Just as Christ’s love for us is unconditional, our love for our brothers and sisters must be unconditional. In fact, in this passage, we see an entire attitude that should be the result of our love of Christ and of others. We cannot think of ourselves primarily; we must think and act after the manner given to us by Christ.
Our world has a shortage of heartfelt compassion. In our own bubbles of individuality, facing our own struggles, we find it difficult to truly love and care for others. In a world that is increasingly impatient and hostile, we have a difficult time being patient and gentle. In a world where love is considered conditional based on either the emotions of the minute or the amount of agreement that we share, genuine kindness and humility are hard to muster. However, these characteristics are exactly what Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, has told us to display. These characteristics are meant to be a sharp contrast to the world around us. Remember that “By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:35). Let us demonstrate that love today.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal anyone that you are harboring resentment about. Forgive that person as He has commanded.
