Read the Word:
Acts 17:16-31
Meditate on the Word:
We are designed for worship. It is a default that is built into us by our Creator. It has been said that if a person does not worship God, he finds something to replace God as the object of his worship. In Paul’s day, the Greeks had a plethora of gods. They had a god for every purpose. And, lest they miss and offend a god, they had an altar “to the unknown god.” There was a built-in fear of missing something that they were supposed to be worshipping.
While now, it is much less common to worship statues, idolatry is still rampant in our world. In contemporary society the primary idol is self. People who reject God and look to replace Him now look within themselves for something worthy of worship. If we make ourselves into gods, then every thought we have and action we take must be sacred. This leaves no room for us to be corrected and instructed by others. And definitely no time to be corrected by God Himself.
Pray the Word:
Pray to our Lord to reveal any idols in your life. Then, get rid of them.
