Read the Word:
Acts 13:16-25
Meditate on the Word:
Paul’s teaching in this passage was at the synagogue in Pisidian Antioch. He is offered the chance to encourage the members of the synagogue, so he takes the opportunity to share about Jesus. While Paul often discusses his own experience with Jesus on the road to Damascus, this time instead, he refers to John the Baptist’s testimony about Christ.
John the Baptist’s testimony is important because his job was to call people to repentance to prepare them to receive Christ. John was the last of the Old Testament prophets, announcing the coming of the Lord. His entire ministry was about pointing people to Jesus instead of himself. It seems certain that Paul, before his encounter with Christ, would not have given John much credence. After his encounter with Jesus, however, he recognizes the truth in John’s words. We must also recognize that Jesus is worthy.
Pray the Word:
Thank the Lord for those who have come before who have testified about Him so that we may know Him today.
