Read the Word:
Ecclesiastes 2:1-11
Meditate on the Word:
Yesterday, we saw that Solomon, the richest and wisest man alive, experienced depression. Today, we see from his words that alcohol did not make him feel any better. Neither did accumulating unprecedented wealth, things, servants, etc. These things do not provide meaning in our lives, as Solomon discovered. Yet many today still pursue these things, thinking how great life will be when they have this thing, that thing, or X amount of money.
Meaning in life is only found in relationship to our Lord and in doing what He has called you to do. In fact, what we may find is that in spending our time chasing after created things instead of after the Creator, we engage in a form of idolatry. Certainly, it is good to have nice things. But it is even better to have relationships with our Lord and the people that He has put into our lives. Let us seek these things first.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal anything to you that you have prioritized over Him. Repent.
