Read the Word:
Galatians 6:1-10
Meditate on the Word:
I find it fascinating that Apostle Paul writes the words in this passage commanding restoration. The man who formerly had been a staunch opponent of followers of Jesus is now teaching what He taught. The man who formerly would have killed instead of restored relationship is now demanding restoration. This is a testament to the power of Jesus. Also, though, we must be aware that restoration of one caught in wrongdoing seems to go against our nature. After all, it is easy to like the feeling of moral superiority over one caught in sin. However, none of us are above sin. Paul also warns us to watch out so that we do not get caught in sin.
When we sit in judgment over someone else’s sin, we put ourselves upon a pedistal from which we can easily fall. When we recognize that, like this one who has sinned, we are also prone to sin, it is easier to feel empathy toward that person. The only reason that we should take note of someone else’s sin is to call them to repentance. Our job is to call them into right relationship with Christ and with us. There are things that we are commanded to do if they will not listen, but we must always attempt restoration first.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal to you any feelings of superiority over other sinners. Repent.
