Read the Word: 2 Corinthians 10:12-18
Meditate on the Word:
When Paul wrote the letter that we now know as 2 Corinthians, there had been challenges to his apostolic authority while he was absent from Corinth, spreading the gospel in other areas. Paul was not one for self-promotion, but some who were challenging his authority were. While we cannot be sure what the motivations of these people were, Paul seems pretty clear that they were critical of his abilities (2 Corinthians 10:10) and thought they could do better.
We live in an unprecedented time of shameless self-promotion. Social media has allowed people to become famous (or infamous) overnight at a speed never before thought possible. It is essential that we avoid comparing ourselves to those who “commend themselves.” God has given each of us a unique position of service in His kingdom. His is the only standard that matters. His approval is the only approval that matters.
Pray the Word:
Pray that your faith may be increased (v. 15) so that our area of ministry will be greatly enlarged.
