Read the Word:
1 Samuel 17:19-32
Meditate on the Word:
Of course you will recognize this passage as a lead-up to one of the most famous battles in history-David vs. Goliath. David only left keeping his sheep and went to the battle because his father Jesse had instructed him to take some food for his brothers and some cheese for the field commander. Yet, when David gets to the camp, he hears that the army is being taunted by this very large Philistine. The challenge is simple. One Israelite will battle this one Philistine and whichever one wins, his army will be the winner. Yet, the army of God was shaking in fear from this man.
David’s question was simple enough. “Just who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” This simple question earns him the ire of his brother. Imagine asking a simple question, and your big brother accusing you of having an evil heart! Of having the wrong motives. Of just wanting to see the battle, when literally all you did was bring some supplies from dad and ask a question. Eliab’s angry reaction says more about his heart than about David’s. His fear and lack of trust in God had been exposed. Instead of admitting his fear, he accused his brother. This tactic is still in use today.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord if you have wrongly accused someone. If you have, go to that person and make it right.
