Read the Word:
Psalm 22:1-31
Meditate on the Word:
Written nearly a thousand years before the crucifixion, this psalm very clearly pictures the suffering of Christ on the cross. We have often heard that shortly before His death, our Lord quoted the beginning of this psalm (Matthew 27:46, Mark 15:34). The physical agony that Jesus suffered was pure torture. Crucifixion was deliberately designed to be that way. But His feeling of being abandoned by God, who could not look on the sin that had been placed on Jesus, was unbearable. Christ paid the penalty so that we do not have to experience being abandoned by God.
Today is Good Friday, the day that we observe the crucifixion of our Lord. This day does not seem very good, considering that it is our sin that put the Messiah on the cross. But it is good in the sense that a debt we could never pay has been paid for us. Things seem very dark at Calvary on Friday, but Sunday is coming. If you do not already have plans to observe the Resurrection of the Lord at a local church, please make those plans and commit to them today. Today, we observe the cross. Sunday, we celebrate the resurrection.
Pray the Word:
Thank our Lord today for taking your place on the cross. Repent of any sins.
