Reading: Luke 18:31-34
On Sunday, we read Mark’s account of Jesus’ third prediction of His death (Mark 10:32-34). We noted that this time, Jesus provides an additional detail not previously mentioned, which is that He would be handed over to the Gentiles. This would add insult to injury. Of course we know that our Lord was handed over to the Romans to be executed.
Luke’s account gives the additional detail that the disciples did not understand and that the meaning was hidden from them. This can make sense of Mark’s and Matthew’s account that James and John that Zebedee’s sons asked to sit on His right and left in the kingdom. When we do not understand the Kingdom, and do not understand the words of our Lord, we can often use our imaginations to fill in the blanks. This can lead to all sorts of misunderstanding. Our misunderstandings can lead us to ask God for things that are outside of His will.
Prayer Prompt:
Pray that our Lord will grant you wisdom in understanding His word. Seek His will in what you should be praying for and about.
