Scripture: Mark 10:46-52
If you have read Mark’s gospel up to this point, you have seen several instances where Jesus did not allow himself to be identified as the Son of God (1:25, 1:34) for example. It took the disciples some time to understand who Jesus is. And even then, Jesus told them not to tell anyone (8:30). Jesus did not want to be identified before the proper time. Now, on His way to Jerusalem to face His death on the cross, is apparently the proper time.
We read that blind Bartimaeus shouted to the Lord, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” By identifying Jesus as “Son of David,” Bartimaeus was identifying Him as the promised Messiah who was to come from the house and line of David. The blind man knew who Jesus is and continued to call out for His help. Jesus confirmed Bartimaeus’ identification of Him by granting his request for sight.
Having his knowledge of Jesus confirmed, Bartimaeus used his new sight to follow the Lord. What do we do with our knowledge of Jesus? Do we, knowing who Jesus is, call out to Him for help? Do we seek His will in our lives? Do we use the gifts that He has given us to follow Him and work for His glory?
Prayer Prompt:
Thank the Lord for the gifts that He has given to you, and seek His will in how to use them.
