Read the W0rd:
1 Chronicles 11:15-19
Meditate on the Word:
I remember from my days in the military that if the commander ever mentioned something, even in passing, it was treated as if it were an order. The colonel doesn’t like the color of his office? He might come in the next morning to find it painted. Or he may find a couple of sample colors to choose from. It would look nice if the sand was raked? Minutes later, it would be in progress. He wants water from the gate of Bethlehem? As David discovered, his men would do that for him. I’m certain that David was just musing and did not intend for his men to risk their lives to bring him water from home. And yet, in their respect and admiration of him, they did.
I can only imagine the shock on their faces when David poured it out as a drink offering to the Lord. David refused to drink it because they had risked their lives for it. In his humility, he saw this as a gift only fit for God Himself. These men loved David enough to risk their lives for what he wanted. Pouring it on the ground was not a rejection of their gift; it was giving it to One more worthy. Are we willing to go to extremes for God? Do we consider Him to be worthy of our every effort?
Pray the Word:
Thank God for anyone in your life who would go to extremes to care for you.
