
Michael Dickey
Sappony Baptist Church voted on October 26, 2014 to call Rev. Michael A. Dickey as their pastor. Mike is a native of Council Grove, Kansas. He and his wife Tammy (McClung) Dickey have been married since February 14, 1992. They have two daughters, Jennifer and Hillary, and two grandchildren, Everett and Felicity.
Before surrendering to the ministry, Mike served as a Marine for fifteen years from 1998 to 2013, retiring at the rank of Staff Sergeant. His Military Occupational Specialty was Combat Service Support/Embarkation Specialist. His duty stations included Cherry Point, NC; Fort Lee, VA (Now Fort Gregg-Adams); Camp Lejeune, NC; and Quantico, VA. He deployed in 2005 to Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq in Baghdad as a convoy security driver. He deployed in 2007 as a Logistics Advisor for a Military Transition Team, and in 2008 as an Administrative Advisor for a different Military Transition Team.
Between military deployments, Mike served faithfully at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Hopewell, VA, coordinating the Tween program for 6th-8th graders. He was ordained to the gospel ministry in January 2013 and served as a supply pastor for the Petersburg Baptist Association. During this time, he filled the short-term pulpit needs of five different churches within the Association until being called by Sappony Baptist Church.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Religion from Liberty University and a Master of Divinity from Wesley Seminary at Indiana Wesleyan University.
