Read the Word:
Ephesians 4:1-6
Meditate on the Word:
Have you ever worked on a team with people who did not care about doing the job properly? Those who could not be bothered to do more than the bare minimum? Or worse, those who didn’t even bother to do the bare minimum but were only concerned that they might accidentally do more work than someone else? If you’ve ever worked on such a team, you might remember the experience being awful. By contrast, if you’ve ever worked with a team of people who diligently do their work and care about the mission, you probably found that to be a much more pleasant experience.
The difference is diligence. Paul tells us to “diligently keep the unity of the Spirit with the peace that binds us.” We cannot do this haphazardly. We must continually treat others with kindness and respect. One does not become known as a diligent worker by doing the right thing occasionally. It is consistency that is importance. Paul is reminding us that we must make actual effort to protect the bond with other believers. Let us consider that today.
Pray the Word:
Ask our Lord to reveal anyone with whom you have failed to keep unity. Repent.
